I am a few different things to a few different people I suppose but mostly I like to think of myself as a scientist, thinker and a do-er of stuff. I am definitely one of those annoying people who seem to have a heap of energy and usually do what they say they are going to do. I say annoying because I annoy myself with my enthusiasm for new things, interesting projects and schemes.
Science was something that my mum got me excited about as a young child really. I remember looking at pond water under a microscope and thinking that there is a whole world surrounding us that most people never stop to see. I had always wanted to be a doctor until I realized that I didn’t like blood! Anyhow, I didn’t get the grades required and decided to study Chemistry instead. This was mainly because not many people were applying for Chemistry so I figured I would probably be able to get a job afterwards….
After doing my degree and travelling around a bit I did get a job. I was lucky enough to end up working for a chemical distributor specialising in Cosmetic Chemicals – My career as a cosmetic Chemist had begun. While I worked I studied for a diploma in cosmetic science and much to my husband’s dismay kept my “hand in” by formulating all sorts of products in our kitchen. Ten years and a few different countries and experiences later I am still passionate about cosmetic science. I now have my own business which gets involved in Project Management, Lecturing and Brand Development. My driving mission now is to push for “greener” chemistry in my beloved cosmetics market. I am sure that this will be an interesting challenge.
In addition to my love of all things “sciency” I am also a Mountain Bike enthusiast and racer, mini lover, bush walker, mother of two beautiful daughters and wife of a man who is very good with his hands. I am also very slightly addicted to Chocolate and have a compulsion to sing along to the radio / CD / IPOD while driving.

I am proud of you Amanda, you always were a born explorer, it’s great to have an enquiring mind and to be focused, it takes a lot to commit to something so important. It is a shame we do not all apriciate nature and the living world, anyway, recognise that cow!!!

I see you have a cow from Leicestershire, I am watching on BBC2 a programme about a guy who cycled around the world, he is from Scotland. This guy cycles 100 miles a day for 8 hrs for 7 months and burns 6-7 and a half thousand calories a day a total of 18.000 miles. Not bad really. I do not understand by your quote that Aub is good with his hands, could you elabararte for me as only a simple english guy. Well done Amanda,
kind regards Stephen

Dear Stephen,
I do have a leicestershire cow on my pictures – I believe that you or Sandra took that photo so I hope you don’t mind! I have always liked pictured of cows, they look so peaceful.
You know Aub, he can make anything out of nothing. THAT is what I mean……

You’re welcome, there are lots of cows here, our Labrador Islay finds it hard to keep away from the cow parcels, if she was left to her own devices she would clear the field, great, Labradors are good at recycling. I keep going to work on my bike and daily hold up traffic on the Kincardine bridge as it is a single lane, the new bridge will be ready early next year and the new train line open very soon. We now have another car, camper is still off the road, we only use the car if necessary as for the past year nearly it has been walking, bike or public transport but it gets a bit dishartening when you take all day to get 10 miles away and return. Anyway, buy for now, Stephen and Sandra
