my eco life

Re-Born Eco Warrior

April 7, 2008 · 2 Comments

I have always considered myself to be quite “eco friendly”, happy to use public transport when it suited me, avid bike rider, light turner offer extrodinaire. I believed that my green halo was shining brightly, until I started to delve into the Green Police world of Carbon Footprinting…

During the last two months I have been trying to walk in the footsteps of a green consumer. This was primarily motivated by the need to do research for my soon to be launched low carbon cosmetic range. Don’t get me wrong, I thought I was one of “them”, part of the green revolution and I am, BUT not in the sing it from the rooftops kind of way that I was hoping for.

I have not seen many peoples carbon footprints. I am not sure that it is something you “get out” and slap down on the table over cappuchino and muffins.  “Does my Carbon footprint look big in this?” is not something that you tend to hear every day. Anyway, mine is BIG, over 100 times bigger than the carbon slender people living outside of my “stuff” hungry western existance. This has to change.

I am going to tackle this “Carbon Reduction” like I would tackle anything else – I am a scientist and that means I like to measure things, hypothesise and then experiment.  I am not sure how long it will take me, if my family will diss-own me or if it is possible but my mission is to go Carbon Neutral (or at least a carbon friendly and fashionable size 6) rather than the carbon 18 that I currently sit at.

My current motivation – I want to be part of the solution, not part of the problem. No ammount of carbon concious cosmetic will save us if the world crumbles away-  Facing Armageddon  wrinkle free with shiny smooth hair is NOT an attractive option.

Let’s see what happens next……..
